How do you become a CFA® charter holder from START to FINISH?

To become a CFA charter holder, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Pass all three levels of the CFA exams.
  2. Educational Requirements: Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, or be in the final year of your degree program when registering for Level I.
  3. Work Experience: Accumulate at least 4,000 hours of work experience (over a minimum of three years) in roles involving investment decision-making or producing a positive impact on financial markets.
  4. Join the CFA Institute: Apply for membership, pay applicable fees, and commit to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

Once you have completed the above, you are eligible to receive the CFA charter.

  • Fee 1:The CFA Program requires a one-time enrollment fee of $350. Additionally, the exam registration fees depend on when you register:
    • Early Registration: $990
    • Standard Registration: $1,290

Is there a time limit to complete the CFA® Program?

No, there is no time limit to complete all three levels of the CFA Program. However, most candidates take an average of 3–5 years.




When does one take the CFA® exams / When are the exam sittings?

The CFA exams are offered during specific exam windows throughout the year:

  • Level I: Offered four times a year in February, May, August, and November.
  • Level II: Offered three times a year in May, August, and November.
  • Level III: Offered twice a year in February and August.

Candidates must register for their desired exam window and schedule their exam appointment within the available dates. Where does one write the CFA® exam?
